Date Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Parliament House of Commons Parliament Buildings Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6 Canada Dear Prime Minister Harper and Cabinet, Will you and your government commit to a goal to end homelessness in our country? It has been demonstrated in over 300 communities in Alberta and the US that a citizen's commission with the singular purpose of ending homelessness is essential. Ending homelessness is such an important goal that it needs a specific committee so that the need of permanent supported housing is lost in the bureaucracy of government and its agencies. Will you and your Government agree to empower this commission to undertake annual counts of people who are homeless and how many units of permanent supported housing are being built or provided? As a voter, a tax payer and a compassionate citizen I am concerned that not enough is being done to support people to find housing, as every citizen deserves a home. Do you have a SMART plan that has specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely plans, goals and funding to provide supported housing units and/or rent subsidies to provide homes and support for our most vulnerable citizens? As an urban voter concerned about my neighbors who are homeless, and about their health and welfare, and the health of my community, I am concerned that we are wasting tax dollars on unnecessary police, criminal justice, hospitals, health care, emergency shelters, when supported housing is cost-effective and better for individuals and communities. I would like a personal acknowledgment of my letter with answers to my questions. Sincerely, Name Address City Province Postal Code
